Beti Padhao Kendra-A Girl’s education program

Our mission is to mobilize and motivate non-school going girls, between the ages of 6 and 14, from economically and socially backward rural areas of India, and put them firmly on the track of literacy through quality primary education.

The vision is to transform the lives of women, families and entire communities in India by the education and empowerment of the girl child.

  • Increase access and encourage enrolment to basic primary education, through community mobilization, for all girl children not in school.
  • Provide high quality relevant education through Beti Padhao Kendra.
  • Encourage and enable each girl to become an independent thinker and self learner.
  • Make learning joyful.
  • Help transform the community.

About IIMPACT- IIMPACT is our Partner Organization

IIMPACT is a registered Non-Government Organization (NGO) committed to educating and there by empowering the rural girl child between the ages of 6 & 14 years in an attempt to reduce the levels of illiteracy prevailing in India. IIMPACT is run by a committed group of senior industry professionals, most of who have graduated from the Indian Institute Management, Class of 1978. We focus on primary education of underprivileged girls who have never gone to school because of the prevailing village norms. Typically, their parents prevent them from going to school, preferring they help with farming chores, housework and mind the younger siblings while working towards getting them married at an early age.

Our Project

In Madhya Pradesh, Mahatma Gandhi Seva Ashram works in Sheopur District which have a record of lowest female literacy rates in 2001 and 2011 Censuses. Mahatma Gandhi Seva Ashram runs 84 learning centres in the Karahal and Badoda Block of District Sheopur. The project area lies in between Ranthambore National Park on one side and the Palpur-Kuno wildlife sanctuary on the other side. Surrounded by thick forest from all the sides, the schooling infrastructure in Sheopur is weakest in the country. Culturally, this entire belt is predominantly inhabited by a number of the most marginalized communities, the worst off being the Saharia community. Saharias are tribal people who live in jungles on the peripheries of villages. They work in farms and also collect medicinal plants from jungles.

Mahatma Gandhi Seva Ashram identified hundreds of non-school going Saharia Girls and they form the majority at our 84 learning centres. Mahatma Gandhi Seva Ashram has changed the situation of the girl child in these villages. Over 2200 girls are being empowered in Sheopur through  high quality education.

Mahatma Gandhi Seva Ashrama and IIMPACT selects sites in highly disadvantaged areas, sets up schools, monitors their functioning, trains and retrains teachers and helps garner funding so that more and more girl children have a chance to get educated. IIMPACT provides management know-how and capacity building. They partner local NGOs that are well-run and well-established and use their services to develop a grass-roots organization for teaching.

Mahatma Gandhi Seva Ashram monitors the performance of the girls and grades the education provided at every level. All along, objective criteria are used and regular reporting is done.

We have a proven model consisting of learning centres, curriculum and teachers training.
